QUARTZSITE, LAKE HAVASU, YUMA & MEXICO (AGAIN!)

On the road again, heading to Quartzsite Az! We were oh so curious about this place, after watching so many RVers visit there in the winter. It is known as a snowbird haven for RVs, since there is so much BLM land surrounding the town, which translates to inexpensive living. Many of the scenes from the award winning film Nomadland were filmed in Quartzsite and describe the lifestyle of some nomads. We fortunately, or unfortunately, do not live this lifestyle, as we are accustomed to (and spoiled by) a few finer things in life (i.e., ice makers, multi-refrigerators, toilets, solar power, etc) 😳

We toured the RV show during our visit and found it to be much smaller than we expected. We did get a chance to visit the Beer Bellys Bar, where we listened to music and watched lots of interesting (desert) characters!! This was on our must see list.

We needed to move along, so we headed to Lake Havasu. We touched base with friends from North Carolina, Ray and Gayle, to possibly meet up and they invited us to stay in their driveway. We graciously accepted. We enjoyed dinner overlooking the London Bridge (which was brought from London brick by brick in 1968). Had our picture taken outside and discovered Scott may actually have a halo! (Saint? Angel? NOT!!!) Needless to say, we had the photo retaken and it was much better. We also explored the mountains/town of Lake Havasu and watched the NFL playoffs. Thanks Ray and Gayle. We hope to meet up sometime down the road!

Next stop, Yuma! We found a great BLM spot at Mittry Lake and decided to hang out there for 5 days. It was an awesome place to relax, even though we had a wind storm, which caused a sand storm. This is our favorite boon docking spot, so far, with privacy and outstanding sunset vistas.

While in Yuma, we toured the Territorial Prison, drank beer at the Prison Hill Brewing Co, marveled at all the vegetable fields and visited Mexico (Again!). There is a town, Los Algodones, right across the border that is well known for its dentistry, as well as other medical practices and cheap prescription drugs. Apparently, there are over 300 dentists in this small border town. I think we were invited into at least 1/2 of them. We were very tired of saying, No Gracias! The one thing Scott was not able to have completed before our trip was a dental cleaning. So that's what we did, for $35, as well as get new prescription sunglasses. Lunch there was also delicious at a local taco truck, known for their shrimp tacos. The only downfall was waiting in line for almost 3 hours to return to the USA. The US Customs really needs to get it together!!!
