HOW BIG IS CALIFORNIA??

Well, our plans were to do a hop, skip and jump through California, but it is a very looooooong state! It is the 3rd largest in size behind Texas and Alaska. All is good though, and we enjoyed our time there. (Not the gas prices, though)

The next stop on our itinerary brought us to Bodega Bay for whale watching (no luck yet), sunsets, more coastline drives and signs of spring.

On our way to the whale watching beach, we discovered Dungeness crabs for sale by the side of the road. These very sought after crabs were $22 a pound at the docks, and much more expensive at the retail level or restaurants. The lines at the local eateries were incredible. We purchased one crab dockside, which fed both of us and took 2 bites on Scott's finger. Ouch 😩! But it was delicious. 😋

Bodega Bay is famously known as being the film locale for most scenes in the movie "The Birds", which also happens to be one movie which gives me (Sybil) the "heebie jeebies". Scott doesn't miss an opportunity to remind me of this fear!

Next stop was Ft Bragg and the Mendocino area. We enjoyed walking and admiring the charming town of Mendocino, as well as its location directly on the beach. This was also Scott's birthday, so we topped off the day with a yummy meal, consisting of the largest shrimp on a Po' Boy we had ever seen.

We visited another whale watching beach in Ft Bragg (still no luck) and the famous "Glass Beach". We explored the beaches and took a long bike ride around the coast. We found a small tidal pool with glass covered anemones and various other plants and sea life. Beautiful!

Of course, no trip to Northern California would be complete without a stop in the Redwoods! We explored the Redwood National and State Parks for the day. The size of these trees can not be explained in words, or pics. They are amazing! We were also fortunate to see elk on the roadside, as well as a large herd relaxing in a field.
