A MISCELLANEOUS PHOTO DUMP OF ALASKA

CRAZY SIGNS, BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS, ANNOYING INSECTS, A PICTORIAL STORY OF FIREWEED, AND FISH, FISH, FISH!!

First up, a medley of signs we came across that made us chuckle.

For the Chix:

This Inn/Bar actually has a gift shop with assorted items to purchase 😜

I (Sybil) relate well to these two:

And one final physical distancing poster that was new to us.

A sampling of the beautiful flowers we observed throughout Alaska.

The running joke is that the Alaska state bird is actually the ever annoying "Mosquito", as you can see below:'

We don't think it's a joke! 😳

Fireweed grows abundantly in Alaska. It gets its name from its ability to grow after forest fires, as it is usually the first plant to grow back. It is also an edible plant used in jams, jellies, teas, ice cream, etc. The best use, however, may be the way it forecasts winter! Alaskan legend says that when the fireweed finishes blooming, the first snow is 6 weeks away. The plant's flowers bloom in reverse and when they reach the top, their season is over. The blooms will then dry and the plant releases the seeds into the air, similar to dandelions. As you can see below, we were there for the entire growing season and it was time to say goodbye for this reason alone.

Beautiful beginnings...

It has reached the top, 6 weeks to go...

Drying out...

Winter is upon us...

Finally, out of an overabundance, we have learned to prepare fish in so many ways. The favorite, so far, is Halibut wrapped in bacon and glazed with raspberry habanero jam. All we can say is, "Scrumpdillyicious". 😋

Simply grilled...

Fried fish tacos...

Grilled atop lemons with garlic chili sauce..

Our 2nd favorite: Grilled honey garlic glazed...

The Ultimate...

So long for now...

UP NEXT: OH, CANADA...AGAIN!!
